Why your air conditioning needs servicing

A system that isn’t serviced doesn’t fail overnight. It gets gradually worse, cooling a bit less and costing a bit more to run, until one day it packs up.
If you use your system through the summer, book the service in spring. That way any problem shows up before you actually need it.

Air conditioning repairs

Systems go wrong. The faults we get called out to most often are:

• Not cooling or heating properly. Often low refrigerant, a blocked filter or a failing compressor.
• Water leaking from the indoor unit. Usually a blocked or badly run condensate drain.
• Refrigerant leaks. These need finding and fixing properly, not just topping up.
• Ice forming on the pipework or coils. A sign of restricted airflow or low refrigerant.
• Noisy or vibrating units. Worn fan bearings, loose brackets or debris in the outdoor unit.
• Unresponsive controls or remote. Electrical or control board faults.
• Error codes on the display. The system telling you exactly what’s wrong, if you know how to read it.
• System won’t turn on at all. Power supply, isolator or PCB failure.

We’ll diagnose the fault, explain what’s actually going on, and give you the honest answer on whether it’s worth repairing or whether you’d be better off replacing the unit.

Topping up refrigerant isn’t a repair

Worth saying plainly, because it comes up a lot. A sealed air conditioning system doesn’t use refrigerant up. If the level is low, there’s a leak somewhere.
Simply topping it up gets you cooling for a few months until it leaks out again, and venting refrigerant into the atmosphere is an offence under F-Gas regulations. We find the leak and fix it. It’s the only approach that’s both legal and worth your money.

Fully certified engineers

Anyone working on a refrigerant circuit must be F-Gas certified by law. Boiler Geeks hold all the correct certifications, so your system is serviced and repaired properly, legally, and in a way that keeps your warranty valid.
That also means we can complete manufacturer warranty work and provide the service records you’ll need if you ever come to make a claim.

Systems we didn’t install

Not a problem. Plenty of our servicing customers inherited a system when they bought the house and have no idea when it was last looked at, or who fitted it.
